Published

I am happy to announce that my first ever mobile app has been published on google play! In this game kids have a wonderful time catching rain drops as they fall and get feedback if they catch the correct or the wrong letter. It's absolutely free and also free of ads, so parents don't need to worry if their kids would accidentally click on ads and download potential malware.

Inspiration

I am a techie by profession, involved in problem solving and exploring new technologies everyday. Being involved in a field that didn't have any visual aspects to the products being developed, there was always a hunger to express the visual creativity in me. So took up photography as a hobby, explored various landscapes, ocean, river, creek, mountains, canyons, meadows, deserts. After becoming a dad of 2 lovely kids, it's become harder to spend time outdoor on photography. So after continuing with my normal day job for a couple of years, the hunger to create something visual, again reached a threshold, that I started looking around actively. On a weekend, when I was watching my 2 year old, playing with a puzzle app on my iPad, and the excitement in her eyes, the seed to explore games/apps for kids was sown. But me being an engineer, who works on low level embedded systems, had no idea how to build games/apps which had objects moving on the screen and reacting to user's input. So casually started spending a few hours after work and weekends learning Android and Java which was a prerequisite to build apps. The process was painfully slow and no where close to building something that I had in mind. Then I came across this product from corona labs, which provided an engine to build apps and helps you focus on the theme you want to build, and hide some of the mundane things from you. So spent some more weekends learning this new tool and built some mock-ups and loaded it on my wife's android phone. Soon my kids rushed to the device and started playing this game, though the app was not exciting as some of the other ones that they were used to, the fact that it was made by their "dada" was exciting to them. This was a very inspirational moment for me and motivated me to take this hobby further.
